Botanical watercolours created by the artist

Description:

The Dunarobba site fascinated me because its conifers have remained almost in their original state, unlike the more commonly known petrified fossil wood.

In this illustration, I tried to bring that habitat back to life, drawing on research into the ecosystem of that period.

The primordial nature of the scene is also reflected in the painting technique. The botanical watercolours used for this work were produced by the artist from natural materials, including saffron, walnut husks, black tea, beetroot, red pepper, parsley, valerian, and red cabbage, either in its natural form or modified with vinegar or baking soda.
