The skeleton belongs to a male specimen , provides evidence for the reconstruction of Palaeoloxodon antiquus, l’elefante a zanne dritte, una specie
of elephant that was widespread in Europe during the Middle and Upper Pleistocene; it could reach a height of nearly 5 meters at the withers and had tusks up to 4 meters long .

Questo esemplare, il cui cranio è stato ricostruito a causa di una marcata deformazione, ha un’età stimata di circa 400.000 years old. It was discovered in the 1950s at a site near Grotte Santo Stefano, in provincia di Viterbo, dallo staff del Museo di Geologia e Palaeontology di Roma, dove nel 1970 venne riassemblato.
